Taking time

The plan was for August to be a quiet time with space for reflection and getting ready for the busy time that's coming in September and onwards.  Of course, plans like that rarely work out and so August has been a really busy month as it turns out.

Despite that, there has been time to catch up with a number of St George's folk, with time for some really good conversations.  These are times I find really stimulating and they give me renewed energy - as well as lots of ideas.

As anyone connected with the world of websites will tell you, keeping everything up-to-date and relevant takes a great deal of time and patience.  Thanks again, then, to Darren and to Dave for all their hard work.  Thanks, too, to all the people who've commented on the site.

At our Wednesday morning services we've been focussing for the past few weeks on what it means to us to live life God's way.  One of the things it definitely means is making sure we have time to spend with God on a regular basis, however difficult that may seem.  It reminds me of a wayside pulpit which reminded passers by that 'Seven days without prayer makes one weak!'  How true.

One of my favourite quotes ever is from the late 19th/early 20th century poet, W H Davies, who spent a significant part of his life as a tramp in this country and the US.  He wrote, 'What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare?' Whoever we are and wherever we are, taking time out can refresh both body and soul.  It's a lesson I need to learn again and again.
